Sensorimotor Psychotherapy

Sun shines through tall trees in a leafy, dark forest.

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP) is a body-centred form of therapy created by Dr. Pat Ogden used to address trauma, attachment challenges and unresolved emotions. While SP does involve some talking, there is an emphasis on using mindfulness with the body to contact our inner experience, process, transform and integrate.

Trauma work with SP focuses on:

  • Establishing safety and stabilization

  • Education on the impacts of trauma

  • Understanding how this may be impacting you in your life

  • Regulating the nervous system and building a repertoire of resources

  • Trauma processing

Developmental and Attachment related work with SP focuses on:

  • Recognizing adaptive strategies, emotional and behavioural patterns in our lives

  • Working with various parts of the self to support healing and awareness

  • Using the therapeutic relationship to support you in processing, connecting to unresolved grief or memories

  • Creating new meaning and resources to continue navigating life going forwards
